New Delhi: John Fernandes, the local politician accused in the rape of a Russian tourist, has got bail, which means the police will not be able to interrogate Fernandes.
There was more relief for him with the police telling court that the victim showed no physical signs of forced intercourse.
Earlier the Goa police said that the report indicated that there were thirteen injury marks on her body.
However, on Tuesday, the Goa police told a Madgaon court that the Russian woman may not have been raped after all.
The Goa police’s move came after a second medical report which ruled out forceful intercourse citing no vaginal tears or injury.
The Goa police had submitted this report in Madgaon court on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the victim's lawyer Vikram Verma said, “As per the second medical report is concerned, it clearly identifies the injury marks. Her drink was spiked. Certain injury marks have been recorded. If she was in her full senses, she would have had 35 - 40 injuries. Her statement is clear. He has penetrated her. Should be considered as rape. I can't understand why Police Inspector Shirodkar has pressurised her to file a complaint of verbal abuse, bad language and a simple assault.”
The reports of the second medical test came hours before Fernandes' bail plea hearing on Tuesday.
Fernandes had been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rape and assault.
