Panaji: The Goa Carnival was called off on Saturday after a terrible accident involving a school bus, in which 4 people reportedly died, of whom 2 were students. Initial reports suggest that the driver lost control over the vehicle and it fell into the Kalvi river. The incident happened near Aldona village, 15 kms from Panaji.
Although the number of students travelling in the bus is not yet clear, locals claim that there were at least 15 people inside the bus.
Rescue operations are on at the site. A fire brigade and police divers are assisting with the search operations.
The Goa Carnival was scheduled to begin on Sunday.
