New Delhi: Goa Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat defended the state police and ruled out a CBI probe into British tourist Scarlette Keeling's murder.
This is what he told CNN-IBN:
"I am confident that Goa Police will crack this case in two to three days time."
He expressed confidence that the North Goa Police would investigate the case well.
Kamat also said: "The Superintendent of Police of North Goa will conduct an inquiry into the case. If there is any negligence on part of the Anjuna Police Station, we will take action against the policemen involved."
The Chief Minister however ruled out the possibility of transferring to the case to the CBI — something which Scarlette's family has been demanding for some time now, as they suspect that the police is covering up the truth of Scarlette's death.
"When our police is confident of cracking the case, there is no question of handing over the case to any other investigating agency," he said.
"We are very transparent in the investigations and are revealing all the information as we get it. I myself am reviewing the case every day," he said.
The Chief Minister also added that tourists should learn to behave more responsibly and be careful in their conduct.
