German rape victim ready for medical exam

New Delhi: There has been some development in the alleged rape case of a German minor in Goa.

The girl's mother, a German researcher, has consented to the medical examination of her daughter. She conveyed this through a letter written to the Superintendent of Police on Wednesday.

Investigations had hit a roadblock when the minor had refused to record her statement or undergo a medical examination, despite being coaxed by psychiatrists and NGOs.

Goa Police were considering reviewing the case and dropping some of the charges against Goa Education Minister's son Rohit Monserrate.

21-year-old Rohit has been booked on charges of raping, outraging the modesty of and abetting a crime. He is also accused of sending lewd messages to the 14-year-old German girl.

The SP of North Goa, Bosco George had been personally monitoring the Rohit Monserrate case. But from one week, the SP is in a dilemma.

Despite repetative efforts from police, psychologists & NGOs, the German minor girl has refused to give her statement & undergo medical examination. That has stalled the case for the Goa Police who could not proceed further.

"I agree that the girl's refusal for statement & medical examination has made it difficult for this case to proceed," said the SP.

"We are thinking on the case about what to do and whether some new sections need to be put or some sections to be dropped. We are analysing<" he added.

But Aires Rodrigues, an activist who exposed this case feels that the police can proceed in the case without girl's statement as the mother has given a detailed statement.

As far as the medical examination of the girl is concerned, Aires feels that it can be done with a consent of mother as the girl is a minor.
