Goa: A man claims that he saw 65-year-old John Kallie - an Australian tourist killed in a bar brawl in Goa - provoke a fight in a bar. The man claims Kallie was injured after the fight.
Now the eyewitness says that it was Kallie who attacked the waiter first with a knife and died in the brawl that followed.
"He wanted to buy beer for some Indian tourists. When they refused he forced the waiter to get it anyway. When the waiter tried to clarify, the Australian took out a knife and put it on the waiter's neck," says the eyewitness.
The Australian was badly injured in the brawl and was taken to the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim, where he died after being treated for almost ten hours.
The post mortem examination report is expected shortly.
Three waiters at the Club City restaurant in Calangute were arrested in connection with the murder of the Australian national on Wednesday morning. The three have been identified as Manak Basal, Jagat Pradhan and Jaykrishna Das.
Superintendent of Police Gundu Naik said on Tuesday that the incident took place at 0800 IST hrs on Wednesday when Kallie was having beer in the bar.
"He entered into an argument with the waiter which resulted in the altercation. The deceased was pushed down and assaulted in the bar," Naik said.
