Panaji: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has accused the Goa police of completely misleading everyone with their findings in the Scarlette Keeling murder case.
After a fact-finding tour, a two-member team of the Commission blamed the police of trying to destroy evidence in the matter.
NCW members visited Goa on Saturday to conduct an investigation into the case. They not only challenged the investigation of Goa Police in their preliminary report but also highlighted the presence of the drugs mafia in Goa.
“Police were trying to hush up the investigation from the beginning by calling the body as 'unknown' in spite of knowing that the body is of Scarlette. They demolished Lui shack because they did not want to leave any clue to the agencies like us who will come to enquire,” NCW member Nirmala Venkatesh said in a press conference.
And though police have arrested two people in the case, the Commission members say they suspect the involvement of others.
“Our preliminary investigation shows that there were at least four to five people involved in her rape and murder. One held her legs, other her hands, one injected her with drugs, one closed her mouth and one raped her,” Venkatesh added.
This led to questions about the drugs angle as well.
“We asked Goa Police how drugs are circulated here and how the drug mafia is functioning on beaches here,” Venkatesh said.
Meanwhile Scarlette's mother Fiona Mackeown has said that she will get another forensic test done on her daughter’s body in the UK. This will be the third such test, if conducted.
