New Delhi: A children's court has granted conditional bail to Goa Education Minister, Babush Monseratte's son Rohit. Rohit has been accused of raping a German minor girl.
The bail was granted after the German girl's researcher monther said she wanted to withdraw her complaint.
Rohit was arrested just five days ago in connection with the case - more than 20 days after the German filed her complaint against him. She had also demanded that the education minister be charged with abetting the crime, because a mobile phone registered in the minister's name was used to send "obscene" messages to her daughter.
While the case against Rohit has been dropped, the charges against PWD Minister Churchill Alemao's nephew, Warren Alemao are still being investigated.
The girl's mother had filed a case against Warren on October 24 claiming he too sexually assaulted her daughter.
Meanwhile, social activist and human rights lawyer Aires Rodrigues who brought the Goa rape case to public attention says that the girl's mother feels that the system has let her down.
"The mother feels that the whole system has failed her and that's the reason she's given a letter to the Calangute police station stating that the system has failed her. Her daughter who was a victim is sought to be made an accused in the matter and that she does not want to proceed with the case. I will be discussing with Governor Sidhu the whole case. So the German lady will also be present while I discuss the case with Goa Governor Sidhu. We shall be addressing the press after the meeting. The mother and daughter feel victimised," said Aires.
Babush Monserrate on the other hand was a relieved man and maintained that his son is inoccent and not involved in the rape case.
