Panaji: Goa Assembly Speaker Pratapsingh Rane on Thursday hinted that he might not take the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on the mining scam seriously.
Speaking to CNN-IBN, Rane said that it was only a draft report as Congress members had not signed it.
"We are in a democracy so the majority view should be taken into consideration," he said.
He, however, said that he was going through the report.
The report was on Wednesday submitted by PAC chief Manohar Parikar. Some Congress MLAs, who are members of the PAC, had refused to sign the report calling it biased.
The report claimed that 35 per cent of mining taking place in the state was illegal and the royalty loss had been estimated at Rs 200 crore.
The report also raised a question mark on the difference between the quantity of ore being extracted and exported, hinting that there was surplus ore coming from outside.
The PAC report estimated the scam at Rs 4000 crore and recommended transfer of officers from Sanguem, Quepem and talukkas, which are mining areas, as preventive measure. It also asked for an expert committee to review all environment clearances granted to mining projects in these areas.
The report further asked for immediate shutdown of mines in wildlife sanctuaries.
