MYSORE: The 500 gram golden sandals of Sri Biligiri Ranganatha Swamy has been allegedly replaced, shocking the Revenue department officials and devotees.
The Muzari department had handed over the golden sandals and other valuables to temple priests during Dooda Jathra festival on May 4.
As tahsildar Shivanagaiah found differences in the colour of the sandals, he directed the officials to check the quality. He said an investigation should be conducted into the issue.
The priests ruled out the alleged replacement or theft of temple properties and maintained that the colour had changed after the golden sandals were polished during the Sankranthi festival.
They said the Muzari department officials had handed over a number of items but never checked the weight or quality of gold before handing them over to the temple authorities.
Yalandur police have registered a case.
Earlier, the Ranganatha Swamy Temple car festival was cancelled as the authorities had not repaired the defunct wheels of the car.
