Gonda: Surrounded by security, afraid to speak, Gonda CMO Dr SP Singh isn't sure what to do next. The man who abducted the CMO for not toeing his line may have resigned from his post - but Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Revenue and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Singh alias Pandit Singh still rules Gonda. Such is his fear that the CMO hasn't dared to file a complaint against him, he's just glad he's been transferred out.
Dr Singh on Saturdday said, "I have not taken decision on filing FIR. The Uttar Pradesh government has done nothing to inspire any confidence. The District Magistrate and SP of Gonda who helped him flee the ministers' wrath have been punished with a transfer as well. The state's health minister is now threatening the CMO with an expose.
UP Health Minister Ahmed Hassan said, "Everyone knows how clean CMOs are. Very soon I'll expose them."
The issue raises several questions including why is the Samajwadi Party (SP) government trying to protect a minister who openly abducted and intimidated a government officer? Also, why are officials who did their duty being victimised? And why has Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav chosen not to take a stand on the abduction drama?
The seven-month Akhilesh government is already suffering with an image crisis and has many questions to answer - but perhaps the most important one is - whose side are they on - the people of uttar pradesh who voted them to power or goonda ministers who don't think twice before taking law into their own hands.
