New Delhi: Google is marking the Gay and Lesbian Pride Month with an easter egg on its search results page.
For search results for terms such as "gay", "lesbian", "transgender" and "lgbt", Google displays a rainbow, signifying the rainbow flag of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) movement at the end of the search bar.
Google is known for slipping in hidden features and occasionally jokes, also known as easter eggs, into its products.
Unlike the usual Google doodles, this Google commemoration is not upfront and users have to discover it themselves.
On June 2, 2000 the then US President Bill Clinton declared June as the Gay & Lesbian Pride Month. June was chosen to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots in Greenwich Village, New York, that sparked the modern LGBT movement in the United States. The last Sunday of June is celebrated as Gay Pride Day.
Google and its founders have been open in their support for gay rights and gay marriage.
