New Delhi: Google released its year-end Zeitgeist list for 2012. Google's annual list is an indicator of what's hot and happening in the online world. The search engine leader, each year, analyses billions of search queries to come up with the Zeitgeist - the spirit of the time. This year Google studied 1.2 trillion searches for its Zeitgeist report.
While the world's attention wavered between the tragic and the silly in 2012, and along the way, Web surfers across the globe searched in huge numbers to find out about a royal princess, the latest iPad, and a record-breaking skydiver, the search trends for India were very different from the rest of the world.
A bank job is still a very lucrative career option for millions of Indians and this has made 'IBPS', an abbreviation for Institute of Banking PersonnelSelection, the top search trend in India in 2012. 'GATE Exams', the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering conducted by the IITs was second on the list.
Sunny Leone's, the Canadian porn star of Indian origin, online popularity spilled over from her 2011 presence in the reality show Bigg Boss 5 as she made her Bollywood debut in Jism 2. Sunny Leone is No 3 on the list of the list of the top trending searches and also No 1 in trending people. The late Bollywood superstar Rajesh Khanna was the second most searched for person in India this year. Poonam Pandey maintained her online fame from the previous years into 2012.
If search volumes are an indicator then Ek Tha Tiger was the biggest movie of the year, followed by Rowdy Rathore. Kerala and Taj Mahal are were Indians want to vacation in and the newly opened Yamuna Expressway connecting Greater Noida to Agra is the place we are most curious about.
