Mumbai: Political parties today are in the business of outsourcing their muscle power. And their sidekicks are on to hire for anyone who has a score to settle.

Abhay Jain, a tutor in Mumbai is among many who feel that if you have a long-standing grievance and need a quick-fix solution then you can hire help that comes in the form of friends in political circles who sidestep the law and deliver instant justice.

“If a job needs to be done then it needs to be done. I asked my friends in politics for help and they got the work done,” says Jain.

And Jain isn't the only one. Whether it is students alleging foul play by a professor or patients who feel wronged by a doctor or even a tussle for college admissions, the perfectly respectable citizens are calling in goons from political outfits willing to use muscle power to resolve issues or settle scores.

Abhijit Panse is a student leader from Mumbai's Bhartiya Vidyarthi sena, that is among the many student unions affiliated to various political outfits who lead such violent protests on the alleged perpetrators.

Issuing threats, beating up and face blackening in the presence of TV cameras is a common ploy that is a sureshot way to get political mileage for students like him.

“We are willing to join hands and even break an arm,” says student leader, BVS, says Abhijit.

However, Abhijit also says, “As a patriot its my duty to do justice for the common man.”

Doctors, teachers, academics, no one has been spared. Jayant Chaudhary, principal of New Horizon School in Navi Mumbai was at the receiving end of such mob violence.

“I am shocked! Today’s politicians don’t believe in Gandhi. If they did, they would discuss the matter peacefully,” says Chaudhary.

Gandhigiri may be a popular Bollywood message, but in the real world, a growing number believe that might is right and that to survive you need to fight.
