New Delhi: The Government has appealed to Anna Hazare to call off his proposed fast in Mumbai and says that it has fulfilled its promise on the Lokpal Bill. Minister of State, Parliamentary Affairs, V Narayanswamy said that the Lokpal Bill is before Parliament which will discuss and pass it.
"As far as the government is concerned, there is no need for Anna to go on fast because the government’s commitment of bringing Citizen’s Charter Bill, the lower bureaucracy under appropriate mechanism and Lokayukta in line with the Lokpal, all the three have been complied with the government," said Narayanswamy.
"But I appeal to them not to go on agitation because the government brought the bill in Parliament and it is going to be discussed for three days and ultimately Parliament will decide on it," he said.
Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, too, said that the Government is committed to a strong Lokpal.
"For common people a strong Lokpal Bill is required and this initiative by the government should be appreciated. If there are any flaws it can be rectified in future by amendments. It should be supported, I appeal for that," said Sharad Pawar.
Hazare has threatened to go on fast for three days from December 27 in Mumbai and also given a call for jail bharo andolan from December 30 while rejecting the Lokpal Bill tabled in the Lok Sabha.
