New Delhi: Paving the way for expeditious growth of aviation infrastructure in the country, the government today approved a new greenfield airports policy that dispenses with the need for mandatory approval for setting up new airports.
"While giving the approval, it has been decided that no greenfield airport will be allowed within an aerial distance of 150 km of an existing civilian airport," Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
He said in case a greenfield airport is proposed to be set up within 150 km of an existing civilian airport, the impact on the existing airport would be examined, he said, adding that such cases would be decided on a case-to-case basis by the government.
The Cabinet also approved guidelines for construction of airports, airstrips and helipads for private use.
"This decision would substantially liberalise the procedure for construction of private airports, airstrips and helipads thereby reducing burden on other operational airports," Dasmunsi said.
