New Delhi: With more than 70 people affected, Pune seems to be facing the brunt of the swine flu pandemic. While the Health Ministry has come out with guidelines for schools to manage cases of infection, the city is reaching out to the doctors for help.
The Municipal Corporation organised a workshop for the doctors on Wednesday and stressed on the importance of tracking down people who are exposed to the virus.
“Our team will go to the house of positive cases and take down history and also spread awareness about the flu,” says Deputy Health Office PMC, Dr RR Pardeshi.
Two schools in Pune have reported a case each of the influenza A H1N1 virus. Both the schools have been temporarily shut down until further notice.
In the Capital, the Health Ministry has come out with guidelines for schools to manage cases of infection. These include –
- Any student or staff member showing flu like symptoms should be allowed to stay at home for a period of seven to 10 days.
- Educational institutions should also monitor cases who might have come in contact with a suspected case.
- In case of hostels, the health status of care providers must also be monitored.
- All such cases must be reported to local health officers.
- Schools should also discourage the excursions to the affected countries and monitor those who return from such countries.
- Currently closure of educational institutions is not recommended.
And as the second wave of the pandemic is expected to hit after the monsoon, the Government plans to rope in private hospitals as well.
