Govt faces pressure from allies over Mumbai

New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry is facing pressure from its allies over the Maharastra issue and are now under tremendous pressure to do more than just talking and act tough.

From Railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and Minister for Steel Ramvilas Paswan to Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh, all have slammed the Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh government.

Paswan even demanded that President's rule be imposed in Maharashtra.

Lalu says, "If this kind of violence continues, then we will have to reconsider whether railway services in these states should continue."

With Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati taking up the cause with the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the onus is on allies like Lalu, Paswan and even Mulayam to make UPA deliver.

Thursday's meeting of the union cabinet will be a stormy one with some allies even demanding dismissal of the state government.

Paswan says, "We are demanding dismissal of the state government and will raise this issue in the cabinet tomorrow."

Amar Singh says, "If the government is not listening to Lalu and Paswan, they should resign."

It is clear that the allies want the Union to act tough now and do more than just seek reports from the state government.

Clearly, there is a growing frustration among the friends of UPA from the north after all Maharashtra is not being governed by BJP ally, it is congress-NCP combine which rules the state.
