Govt nominates 3 new members to Satyam board

New Delhi: The Central Government has nominated three more members to Satyam Computers Services Ltd board raising its strength to six.

Union Minister of Corporate Affairs Prem Chand Gupta said that the government is strengthening the board and had nominated Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Chief Mentor Tarun Das, ex-Institute of Chartered Accountants of India chief TN Manoharan and Suryakant Balakrishan Mainak to the board.

Suryakant Balakrishan Mainak is a nominee of the Life Insurance Corp of India (LIC).

The Union Minister said that the government will do whatever is necessary in public interest to bring Satyam Computers back on track.

Gupta revealed that the two audit firms appointed on Wednesday have started their work.

He also claimed that as per the first impression from directors, Satyam's operations are sound and investors are willing to remain with the IT giant.

Replying to a question if the new CEO and CFO of Satyam will alo be government nominees, Gupta said, "New board will decide about the new CFO and CEO of Satyam."

The Government had on Sunday (January 11) nominated HDFC Chairman Deepak Parekh, former Nasscom chairman Kiran Karnik and former SEBI member and ex-presiding officer of Securities and Appellate Tribunal C Achutan to the IT company's board.
