Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has decided not to appeal against the Bombay high court's decision to remove DGP AN Roy.
The Bombay High Court on February 5, 2009 had set aside the appointment of senior IPS officer Roy as Maharashtra DGP, terming it as contrary to law. The court also has asked the state government to appoint a new DGP in four weeks.
"If the government has a sense of propriety, it should dismiss Roy withing 24 hours," Munde told PTI.
"The government should not waste any time in removing Roy as the court has made it clear that his appointment was arbitrary,"Munde, who was home minister during Shiv Sena-BJP rule during 1995-99, said.
The state government should not waste any more time in technicalities before implementing the court order, he said.
BJP state unit president Nitin Gadkari also demanded immediate removal of Roy from the post.
Roy was appointed to the top post in February last year.
