New Delhi: Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi has assured that there would not be any interference in the current affairs and news desk of any channel.
"I can promise to you that when the Bill is finalised there would not be any interference in the current affairs and news desk of any channel," Dasmunsi said.
Karan Thapar: That's a promise?
Priyaranjan Dasmunsi: "Yes, decisive, decisive, decisive. Number two, programme content will be excluded from editorial comment. Programme content is films, theatres, songs, language used. If something is there which is sensitive in nature and can create a problem the Government can advise. But advise not mandate. And number three, any matters regarding the mechanism to regulate should not be left to the government but it should be left to the (Broadcast) Authority (which will be) similar to the status of the Press Council where the government cannot dictate. Autonomous."
