Kolkata: Kallol Sur, a 1995 West Bengal state Civil Services topper and a Block Development Officer in West Midnapur district was found hanging from the ceiling in his quarters on April 8, according to official sources.

This sad, but seemingly simple case of suicide then took a sinister turn.

Kallol's father, Dilip Kumar Sur says, "I made it clear from the beginning that I wished to take my son's dead body back with me to Kolkata, but the request fell on deaf ears. They refused to pay any heed to what I was saying."

And the anguish has only multiplied for the grieving family.

They say the police, despite repeated requests, have not revealed the post mortem report. Sur's father adds that he was not allowed to see the body at all and that the body was later allegedly cremated by the local police at an unknown spot.

High Court Advocate, Biswaketan Acharya says, "It seems as if they conspired in this murder and then wrote it off as suicide."

Sur's family alleges that he has paid the price for being honest. They are now hoping for the Governor's intervention as no help is coming their way from the state authorities.

Even as the distraught parents of Kallol Sur try and come to terms with the reported suicide of their son, the deafening silence of the authorities of West Midnapur is only building a case that resembles the Manjunath and Satyendra Dubey episodes.

The episode is bound to haunt the police with the Panchayat polls looming in the background .
