Radhakanta Nayak: A 1962 batch IAS officer, who retired as the secretary to the Government of India in 1997. Now he is a Rajya Sabha member.
Sugrib Singh: He is the BJD Lok Sabha member from Phulbani in Kandhamal district.
John Nayak: Former DGP of Orissa.
Isaac Behera: He is a former bureaucrat from Orissa. Both Nayak and Behera belong to Kandhamal.
Bhubaneshwar: The above are a few high profile names from the list of around 600 Government servants belonging to Kandhamal against whom investigations are on.
The allegation against them is that they have produced Scheduled Caste certificates to get jobs even after converting to Christianity.
“Of the 600 fake certificate allegations, 350 have been verified by the district administration and the remaining will be verified in another one to two months and action will be taken according to the government guidelines,” Collector of Kandhamal Kishan Kumar said.
According to the law, a Hindu Scheduled Caste person cannot claim reservation benefits once he converts to another religion. But in Kandhamal lakhs of people have allegedly enjoy quota benefits even after converting to Christianity.
However, BJP MP Sugrib Singh rubbished the accusation.
“These are false allegation against me. Allegations are politically motivated. I am a Hindu SC and I have not used any fake certificate,” Singh said.
After this Christmas passed off peacefully in Kandhamal, the Orissa government is considering withdrawing security forces from the district. But before withdrawing forces, it seems the government should address the religious, reservation and land issues in the district.
