29 kids die of malnutrion in MP

CNN-IBN

Satna, MP: Twenty nine children have died of malnutrition and over 200 hospitalised in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh in the last 45 days. Statistics show 1,500 children in the state have been reported to be malnourished.

However the state government maintains the situation isn't serious.

The Madhya Pradesh government plays a mute spectator as the children in the state are dying of malnutrition. Recently malnutrition deaths have also been reported from Satna and Shivpuri districts in the state.

It is feared that over 1,500 kids are malnourished in the Khalwa tribal block of Khandwa alone.

MP's 'Right to Food' campaign claims that malnutrition has killed over 100 children in the state since April. However the state government maintains the situation isn't serious.

"The children have not died because of malnutrition. We are taking care of everything and the government is doing its duty," said Minister for Woman and Child welfare, Kusum Singh Mehdele.

There are 1,390 anganvadi centres in Khandwa and nutritious food supplements worth three crores are distributed through these centres every year, but the government is silently sitting on these statistics.
