New Delhi: Here is some good news for students. In the next five years, the Government is expected to announce 2 lakh scholarships for meritorious students from economically backwards families.

These scholarships, to be given for higher education, are income-based and not caste-based.

The 2 lakh scholarships are to be divided equally amongst girls and boys. The amount granted is Rs 1,000 per month for undergraduates and Rs 2,000 for post graduates.

Students whose parents earn more than Rs 2.5 lakh per month are not eligible for this scholarship.

The Government will prepare a database of Class XII board results and scholarships will be offered on the basis of these results.
