New Delhi: On a day which marks the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, the government has made it clear that it will go ahead with the Nuclear Power plant in Jaitapur. In a high level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, a series of decisions were taken related to nuclear safety and compensation for local people.

Angry protests marred the setting up of India's most ambitious nuclear power project a 10,000 MW power plant to be set up in Jaitapur Maharashtra.

In a meeting with all stakeholders including Jairam Ramesh, Chavan and Atomic Energy Commission Chairman it was decided that the government would set up an autonomous nuclear regulatory body.

In reference to Jaitapur it was decided that each nuclear reactor would have its own stand alone safety system. A fresh rehabilitation package for local people would also be announced.

The protestors who opposed the setting up of Jaitapur plant were still not satisfied.

The government has announced ambitious plans for the Jaitapur plant, but will this be enough for the people of Jaitapur?
