Click to play videoNew Delhi: The country's Madarsas might go in for an overhaul with the government panel recommending setting up a Madarsas board to regulate their education standards on the lines of the Central Board of Secondary Education.
It was in a seminar last December that the idea to have a board to modernize madarasa education in the country was first mooted. Now a committee formed by the government on the issue claims to have arrived at a near consensus among the Muslim clergy on the issue.
"Muslim want modern education. Such education that will provide them avenues for employment," says M S A Siddiqui Chairman, National Commission for Minority Education Institution.
Though it has been claimed that more than ninety percent of the education institutions have agreed to adhere to have a Madarsas board, a complete consensus is still eluding.
So it has been recommended that a Central Madarsa Board be set up in the lines of the CBSE board. Though the affiliation to the board would be optional, it would help modernize the Madarsa education in the country. The institutions affiliating to the board will get concessions in getting foreign grants and aids. Besides there will be no regulation on the religious education in these Madarsas, promises the government.
However, the government may still have to face certain roadblocks with some Muslim educational organisation apprehending the move. Some of the clerics fear that the politicians might use the board as a tool to interfere into the religious curriculum.
