Govt watchdog for TV channels soon

New Delhi: The Government has decided to set up an Electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMMC) for content monitoring of private television channels, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

Replying to a written question, Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi said the EMMC would also check the violations of programme and advertisement codes in Cable Television Network (Regulations), Act 1995 and rules firmed there under.

The total cost of the project is Rs 11.65 crore out of which Rs 2.90 crore has already been released, he said.

"The project of EMMC is likely to commence in 2007, subject to availability of funds and other infrastructural requirements," Dasmunsi said.
