Mumbai: Aamir Khan and his co-star Asin from the recent superhit flick Ghajini came together on Tuesday evening to celebrate Women Achievers in the country.
Unlike the usual glitterati studded award functions, the GR8 Flo Women Achievers Awards 2009 held in Mumbai on Tuesday night, recognised everyday women in fields including fine arts, advertising, fashion, and journalism. Here, celebs served as presenters and performers, while a select few were honoured too.
"I feel quite humbled sharing the stage with women who have such character. I feel that God made man and woman, and 'she' made them equal," Aamir Khan said.
The now three-film old Deepika Padukone seemed a little surprised to be chosen for the Best Newcomer Award.
"Thank you Calvinator. Thank you GR8. I tbought I stopped receiving these awards last year," she said with a laugh when she came on the stage to receive the award.
Meanwhile an actual newcomer to Bollywood, actress Asin received an honour titled Woman Achiever in the Field of Cinema.
First runner up at Miss World 2008, Parvathy Omanakuttan bagged an award for Beauty and preferred to repeat her Miss World act, saying she was speechless.
Also present at the occasion was filmmaker Farah Khan who said every day was woman's day. "We have to honour and bless our women every day," she said.
