Mumbai: Whether it was as a village belle in Lagaan or the loveable doctor in Munnabhai MBBS, Gracy Singh has always added to her film roles.
However, depsite the fact that the films were two of the biggest hits in recent times, Gracy's film career never really took off.
Now the actress is all set for her maiden stage performance in a dance ballet. The ballet is called Raadhikaa and Gracy will play the divine consort, Radha.
However, even as she dons the greasepaint for her debut theatre show, Gracy insists that her celluloid career is not over.
"I am not neglecting acting in films. A new film of mine Chanchal is going to be released soon. It is directed by the same man who directed Amaanat."
Radhikaa has been choreographed and directed by Bhushan Lakhandri, who has proved his mettle in Bollywood with films like Zubeidaa, Agnivarsha, Omkara and many others.
Some of his works on stage - Karna, Draupadi and Amrapali too have been greatly appreciated and celebrated.
The maestro was attracted to the character of Radha for very unique reasons.
Lakhandri says, "I love Radhikaa. She was a very bold and beautiful character and she waited for Krishna without any commitment for a long time."
However, despite having acted in big budget films, Gracy found it tough to impress Bhushan Lakhandri.
"Bhushan ji complained that my style is all wrong and that I would have to learn everything all over again," says Gracy.
However, all's well that ends well. It seems that Gracy's hard work has paid off and her idol Hema Malini will be the chief guest at the ballet when it is staged on August 31.
