Granny gets a diploma at 98!

San Francisco: One's never too old for education. And nobody could have proved that better than 98-year-old Josephine Belasco, who has graduated from her senior secondary batch in San Francisco this year.

On her graduation day on Wednesday, a group of friends and family members witnessed the moment when the old lady finally got what she'd waited for 80 years - her High School diploma.

Josie had dropped out of Galileo High School back in the 1920's to take care of her family. She'd worked as an accountant for 36 years. But through all these years, she'd always thought about her diploma.

"She is a woman who doesn't give up and that's what it's all about; you never give up," says her proud son, Edward Belasco.

After several phone calls and a meeting, Galileo High School agreed that Josie Belasco should graduate along side the class of 2006.

"I'm very happy today to receive this honour and thank everyone for sharing it with me," said a happy Josephine, amidst loud cheers on Wednesday afternoon.

"She never gives up; she keeps going no matter what, whether it's cooking or climbing the stairs or walking the hills in San Francisco. She keeps going, no matter how old she is. She's amazing and really inspiring for all of us," says Josephine's grand daughter, Shanti Belasco.

With a diploma at the age of 98, the woman will sure be an inspiration to many.
