Perth: Ace leg-spinner Anil Kumble has dismissed Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist and retired Pakistani batsman Inzamam-ul Haq most number of times on his way to the 600-wicket mark in the ongoing third Test against Australia.
Team India captain Kumble, 37, has dismissed Gilchrist nine times and Inzamam on eight occasions in his 124-match Test career. He may get another opportunity to dismiss Gilchrist in the second innings here at the Western Australian Cricket Association ground.
Bangalaore-based Kumble has dismissed seven batsmen — Roshan Mahanama (Sri Lanka), Hansie Cronje (South Africa), Aravinda de Silva (Sri Lanka), Ricky Ponting (Australia), Andrew Hudson (South Africa), Shivnarine Chanderpaul (West Indies) and Mohammad Yousuf (Pakistan) — seven times each.
Kumble has been most successful against Australia. He has so far captured 105 wickets in 17 Tests against them. Although he has played the same number of matches against the West Indies, he has bagged only 74 scalps.
