New Delhi: The CID arrested three more policemen in connection with the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in the Gujarat fake encounter case.
All three officers – sub inspectors Ajay Parmar, Sant Ram Sharma and inspector N H Dabhi – were arrested from the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad.
Sant Ram Sharma was allegedly in Ilol, near Ahmedabad, when Sohrabuddin Sheikh's wife Kauser Bi’s body was brought to IPS officer DG Vanzara's bungalow in the village.
The CID team suspects that Kausar Bi was buried after being murdered and burnt in Vanzara’s bungalow.
Ajay Parmar reportedly transported Sohrabuddin's motorcycle from ATS headquarters to Narol. While Dabhi told investigators that he received information through Rajasthan Police that Sohrabuddin was coming from Surat via Narol, also near Ahmedabad.
Vanzara, IPS officer Rajkumar Pandian and Dinesh Kumar M N, an IPS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, were arrested on April 24 in connection with the November 2005 murders of Soharabbudin Sheikh and Kauser Bi.
However, Vanzara has maintained that charges against him were "interpolation and concocted".
Police gunned down Sheikh on November 26, 2005 on the outskirts of Ahmedabad and alleged that he was a Lashker-e-Taiba terrorist. Kauser Bi was murdered two days later, the CID has told the Supreme Court.
Vanzara on Saturday said he still stands by his statement that Sohrabuddin was a terrorist.
The Supreme Court ordered a probe into Sheikh’s death on his brother’s appeal.
