New Delhi: Housewives in Gujarat have now turned avid investors. Keeping a tab on the skyrocketing stock markets, the household women here were among the ones who were busy selling to make profits today.
Sonal Pandya, a retail investor stays glued to the business news channels these day. Saas-bahu sagas are obsolete for her. The Sensex is scaling new highs and Sonal, as a shrewd investor, knows how to have her share of success at the stock markets. The task may sound a little daunting for a housewife, but Sonal says she has easily struck a fine balance between her work at home and her venture into equities.
“My internet is there. I put the limits of the stocks that I want to buy or sell and its over,” says Investor, Sonal Pandya.
Her husband interestingly has never dealt in stocks, but is convinced about his wife's speculative skills. And he has a reason for that. "When I want some funds, she is quick to give me money. Its actually good for me too,” says Media Consultant Bhargav Pandya.
Like Sonal Ben, there are hundreds of homemakers in Gujarat, who are not just dabbling in the stock market, but are actually earning a fortune out of it.
The large number of women entering the stock markets has made some stock broking companies open specialized branches just for their female clients.
“We have so many female clients that we could not handle them at the main branch. So we have opened this branch,” says Namrata Agrawal, Branch Manager, Anagram Stock Broking.
In a state where participation in the stock markets is very high, it is perhaps only natural for homemakers to seek their share of fortune at the Dalal Street.
