Nagpur: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat in the wake of BJP MP Ram Jethmalani suggesting that Modi should be projected as the party's Prime Ministerial candidate for the next General Elections. Modi will be facing Assembly Elections in Gujarat in December.
Meanwhile, Modi's reported remarks about not allowing "even a single Bihari babu" during Assembly election campaign is aimed at his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray said on Saturday. "During Bihar assembly elections, Nitish Kumar had prevented Modi from entering that state. He had also ordered removal of Modi's photo from JD(U)-BJP alliance posters," Thackeray pointed.
"Nitish Kumar's calculation was that if Modi comes to his state, it will lead to reduction in number of minority votes," Thackeray said in an editorial in party mouthpiece "Saamna". Describing it as a quarrel between two chief ministers of the NDA, Thackeray said nobody has the capability to control the two leaders.
Modi has barred top Bihari leaders in the BJP, including its Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Shahnawaz Hussain, Thackeray said.
All have chosen to remain silent on Modi's outburst and nobody has even questioned him on the issue, he said. "Had such a thing happened in Maharashtra, all Bihari leaders would have come out to protect the 'pride' of Biharis," he added.
