New Delhi: Narendra Modi is all set to be the Chief minister of Gujarat once again. That’s the finding of the CNN-IBN-Indian Express-Divya Bhaskar exit poll.

The electorate in Gujarat have given a thumbs up to Modi and the BJP is expected to end up bagging 92-100 seats and win a clear majority in the 182 member state assembly.

The Congress on the other hand is expected to improve its tally from 51 in the last elections to 77-85 this time but fall short of challenging the BJP.

What has really worked in BJP's favour is a combination of Modi's personality cult, development and emotive issues like Sohrabuddin besides there has also been a shift in the ways castes in Gujarat have voted.

While 50 Rajputs voted for BJP, surprisingly, 60 per cent Leuva Patels owing allegiance to Keshubhai voted for BJP.

As expected Karva Patels remained with Modi. However, the Congress does not seem to agree.

They point out to dissidence within the BJP brought out in open though ads like these showing Modi and Advani as people who hurt religious sentiments.

“Congress is going to win. It may be a photo finish,” said Veerappa Moily, Congress spokesperson.

“The figure doesn’t necessarily reflect the reality. It showed 40-45 per cent for Chandrababu Naidu, but it was actually otherwise,” said Gordhan Jhadapia, rebel leader.

Given the fact that a large number of voters in this exit poll did not disclose their choices, there is reason to watch this space on December 23 when the results will finally be out.
