Gujarat finally screens Parzania

Ahmedabad (Gujarat): Despite several attempts, Rahul Dholakia's film Parzania about a Parsi family who lost their son in the riots of 2002, had failed to reach theatres after protests by right wing organisations.

Now with an NGO, Anhad taking the initiative in screening the film, people have been able to watch the film. And it's the youngsters who have been touched most.

"I wonder why this movie was banned in Gujarat. It should be shown here as it is based here in Gujarat and all people should see it,” says a viewer, Prachi.

“The film has been made keeping both Hindus and Muslims in mind. The film asks people to live together in harmony,” adds another viewer, Haley.

Anhad has already held a couple of special screenings of Parzania in Gujarat. And after their first public screening on Monday evening, Anhad is already looking forward to more such events in future.

"We are planning at least 1000 such screenings. It is important that the facts of 2002 be told to people and if nobody will do it, we will take up the task of countering communal forces,” says convener, Anhad, Shabnam Hashmi.

There was an online petition for the release of Parzania in Gujarat first and now with the public screening, one can only hope that least the screenings won’t attract fresh protests this time.
