Ahmedabad: Childless couples from across the world come to Dr Naina Patel, one of the biggest names in India for couples seeking surrogacy.
In the last couple of years Patel, a practising gynaecologist has helped dozens of couples have children through surrogate motherhood - most of whom women from Anand district.
And now she is all set to face one of the most powerful women from the media world - Oprah Winfrey on her popular talk show this week.
"I was amazed and could not believe my eyes. I was excited because she took notice of the work that is being done in a small place like Anand,” she says.
Also joining Patel soon on the Oprah show is Prince Manvendra Gohil of the erstwhile Rajpipla state in central Gujarat.
Not only has Prince Manvendra come out of the closet and declared himself gay, he is also spearheading a movement for the rights of gays and lesbians through his NGO Lakshya.
After being through an unsuccessful marriage and facing a boycott from his family, the gay prince continues to stand up for the rights of homosexuals.
"I never knew I'd be a celebrity. I just let things happen. If I'm given the leverage, let it happen the way it is going to be,” he says.
One is an icon of the gay movement in India, the other a champion of the cause of surrogacy. And what better recognition for both, than being featured on one of the world's best talk shows.
After all, you don't have to be Aishwarya Bachchan to feature on Oprah!
