New Delhi: Self-styled mafia don Santokben Jadeja has fallen in the police net after she was charged with sheltering two people accused in the rape and murder of minor girls near a religious shrine.
Santokben — who earned the name 'Godmother' for her gun wielding ways and running a mafia during the 1980's — was arrested on June 10. She has since been in police custody.
Santokben has, however, denied the charges. The police now plan to conduct polygraph test on her in order to find out if she was lying. She will be taken to the directorate of forensic sciences at Gandhinagar for the polygraph test on June 12, an investigating official said.
The police claim Santokben harboured two of the accused persons when they reached her house in Rajkot after the rape and murder incident. The police even accuse her of hiding the accused because they were friends with one of her sons.
Junagadh police has also filed an application in a local court seeking to conduct the narco-analysis test on Santokben.
An order regarding the application would be taken only on June 13 after Santokben is taken back to Porbandar following the lie-detector test, police said.
The Godmother's arrest in the case was a sudden turn of events even as police is yet to arrest the main culprits.
Santokben, though not actively involved in mafia for some years now, was arrested recently after two of her sons were involved in a murder of a rival gangster in Porbandar.
Her family was in news again after her daughter-in-law Rekha was murdered in her house, suspectedly by insiders in the family itself.
