Mumbai: It was a poetic evening for Mumbaikars as veteran songwriter and acclaimed poet Gulzar enchanted the audience with a small sample of his best lyrics at the release of his new album Chand Parosa Hai, whose ghazals have been sung and composed by celebrated artists like Bhupinder Singh and his wife Mitali.
Despite the fact that Hindi film music has always remained the most popular genre of music in India, relegating classical music, Ghazals and folk to the backseat, Gulzar insists there will always be place for diverse music genres in India, even if it caters to a relatively smaller fan base.
“The fact that popular songs work, doesn’t mean that artists like Bhim Sen Joshi and Kishori Amonkar should stop singing. Classical music has its own place and will continue to remain thus. Just like film songs work, Ghazals work too,” Gulzar said.
Chand Parosa Hai promises to be a must-have for music lovers who enjoy their music strong on sentiment and easy on the ears.
