Srinagar: The encounter between militants hiding in a cluster of houses and security forces in Pulwama district of South Kashmir continued for the second day today.
The operation to flush out the militants hiding at Mir Mohalla Dadasir, which was suspended last night due to darkness and inclement weather, resumed this morning and the exchange of fire is going on between the two sides, police said.
The militants fired a volley of bullets on the search party on Thursday morning prompting the security forces to retaliate and the gunfight is going on.
"Three to four militants are believed to be hiding in the houses", police said.
A militant is believed to have been killed in the gunbattle yesterday. However, police said the death can be confirmed only after the body is recovered.
The gunbattle broke out when militants hiding in a house fired on a joint search party of police and troops of 42 Rashtriya Rifles yesterday in Mir Mohalla Dadasir, 40 kms from here.
