New Delhi: The gun used to shoot and kill the 13-year-old student of Euro International School was not registered in the name of Azad Singh Yadav, the father of one of the accused.
While Yadav does have a license to carry arms, the gun used in the murder was not licensed. This means no one knows how the two boys got the gun in the first place.
The Gurgaon police have been so far unable to trace Yadav, who has been absconding since his son was arrested.
The two accused boys are now in a juvenile home and have not been allowed to meet their family members yet.
The police had on Wednesday registered a case of negligence in handling firearms against Yadav.
"We have included the name of Azad Yadav, the father of the accused, in the first information report (FIR) for casually and improperly handling the fire arms," Gurgaon Police Commissioner Mahender Lal was quoted as saying by IANS.
"Yadav has not been arrested yet but we have fanned out teams," he added.
The police have sent teams to the ancestral village of the accused after he and his family went into hiding.
The firing took place Tuesday in the Euro International School, which claims to be an institution of global stature, in Sector 45 of Gurgaon close to the national capital.
According to the police, Yadav's son stole his licensed revolver and smuggled it into the school after hiding it in his socks. This Class-8 student with another student then gunned down their classmate near the staircase just after the school hours.
