Gurgaon: A Gurgaon court has allowed the police to conduct an identification parade of the main suspect Suraj Sherawat in the BMW hit-and-run case. The 21-year-old, who surrendered on Tuesday, is currently out on bail. The BMW owned by Suraj's father had mowed down a pregnant woman and her driver two weeks ago.
Suraj Sehrawat came out of a Gurgaon court hours after dramatically surrendering following intense pressure on police to show results in the horrific crash.
In the 11 days since the crash, the Gurgaon police attracted scathing criticism for failing to establish who was driving the car and not following even the basics of accident investigation. With the intense media scrutiny and residents hitting the streets, the police had finally issued two notices for his appearance.
"The police asked for his custody, blood samples, his clothes that he was wearing on the day," said the DCP.
Suraj has been booked under bailable sections, and if convicted, would attract only a two-year term. The police claim they will press for stiffer charges post the probe.
