Gurgaon: MNC executive Deepak Mendiratta, who went missing a fortnight ago, returned home on Sunday morning sparking off speculation.
Mendiratta, whose return seemed as mysterious as his disappearance, was found outside his apartment building at 1230 hrs (IST) in what his family terms as a 'drugged state'.
He was rushed to Gurgaon’s Umkal Hospital in Gurgaon.
“Around 12 at night, the family informed police about his return. He has been admitted to Umkal Hospital,” said ACP (East), Gurgaon, Sumit Kumar.
The family informed the police about his return immediately after spotting Mendiratta. Though he seems to have suffered no serious injuries, Mendiratta is reportedly having trouble speaking and ENT specialists have been called in to examine him.
Mendiratta is reported to have been in a badly bruised state when he was found. His head was tonsured, he was not wearing his shirt and his trousers were torn.
“He could not speak or walk, so something bad must have happened,” said Mendiratta’s Anil Kumar.
While his appearance suggests he was tortured, doctors say the injuries are not serious.
“Most of his injuries are superficial. He has abrasions on his arms, head and neck,” said Dr RR Dutta.
The police are waiting for the all-fit certificate from the hospital authorities before questioning Mendiratta.
His return has raised several questions: Was he really kidnapped or did he stage his own abduction as he was trapped in debt? In case he was kidnapped, was a ransom paid?
The absence of any ransom call has made the police suspicious. But they will have to wait some more time before all questions are answered.
