New Delhi: Breaking the seventeen day long deadlock the Gurjar leaders and the Rajasthan government have finally agreed to hold the first round of talks in Bayana on Monday.
This comes as the first major breakthrough in the Gurjar protests that have thrown life out of the gear in Rajasthan.
Forty-three lives, many roadblocks and seventeen days of deadlock later. The protests could finally be headed towards an end.
After several parleys the agitating Gurjars and a helpless government have agreed to talk.
But not before flexing their own muscles. So Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje asked for a smaller Gurjar delegation below 15 in number to meet her own representatives as the first step.
She also wanted the final round of talks to be held in Jaipur. Leader of the pack Col Bainsla responded in the same coin agreeing for smaller delegation. But adding conditions before going to Jaipur.
He said, “If the talks are held in conducive environment we will go to Jaipur for the final round of talks. "
But its still not clear what the two sides can achieve beyond the talk. After all the Gurjars have made it clear - nothing less than reservations under the ST category is acceptable.
Vasundhara Raje is doesn’t want to miff the other powerful Meena community in the state.
On the ground though there is hope that more than two weeks of protest might end fast.
It appears that the state government is now trying to buy time. In an election year Vasundhara Raje would want to bring down the temperatures and restore normalcy as early as possible.
