Bayana: Gurjar leaders have agreed to withdraw their nationwide strike on Tuesday after holding talks with the Rajasthan government.

As many 40 Gurjar leaders on Monday met with a Rajasthan government delegation comprising state ministers L N Dave and S M Jat at a government school in Bayana.

The three-hour meeting was “amicable”, said Gurjar leaders who agreed to hold a second round of talks with the government regarding their demand that the community be given Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

Gurjar leaders demanded at the meeting there would be no further raids on their camps and all arrested agitators will be released.

They wanted a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each and jobs for relatives of Gurjars killed in police firing. The over fortnight-long Gurjar agitation, which began on May 23, has left 43 people killed in police firing and clashes in Rajasthan and Haryana.
