Guwahati: Admit Gogoi to hospital, rules court

Guwahati: A local court on Sunday ruled that that RTI Activist and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi be admitted to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in view of his failing health.

Gogoi, who was arrested for leading a violent agitation in the city which resulted in the death of three persons, was remanded in three days' police custody on Friday.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate's court Kamrup took note of the views of doctors attending the farmer activist, perused subsequent medical documents and ordered that while in custody he should be taken to hospital for treatment of severe back pain.

RTI Activist Akhil Gogoi was arrested for leading a violent agitation in Guwahati.

Taking note of the complaint of Gogoi that he may be poisoned during his days in custody, the court allowed his family members to meet him in course of his treatment and provide him home-cooked food.

The court observed that Gogoi should be in judicial custody and treated in the hospital till his health improved after which he will be reproduced in the court.
