Guwahati: The Assam Police on Sunday arrested two more persons in connection with the mob molestation incident. It also suspended a sub-inspector in the case.
The total number of arrests in the case now is six. Five more remain on the run, while one is yet to be identified, according to the police.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had on Saturday set a 48-hour deadline for the police to nab the culprits. A Special Task Force was also constituted to look into the matter.
Meanwhile, the special team formed by the National Commission for Women (NCW) made a major faux pas on Saturday when it revealed the name of the victim at a media briefing.
Not realising the mistake she had made, social activist Alka Lamba went on to add, "The victim told us that on the night of the incident she and her friends had gone to a pub for a friend's birthday. The victim's friends escaped before the mob gathered."
