Guwahati: Six days after the dignity of a young girl of 17 was shattered and ripped apart in full public view by a mob of around 20 men at a busy road in Guwahati on Monday, the state police has managed to arrest only four of the accused till Sunday morning.
The Guwahati police are still on the lookout for the seven men who were part of the mob that molested the teenager in full public view and on camera on Monday.
Out of the four accused who have been arrested, one is still to be identified.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has set a deadline for the police to nab the rest, which will expire on Monday.
More civil society organisations are expected to protest on the streets on Sunday as well.
Meanwhile, The National Commission for Women (NCW), a team of which had visited victim in Guwahati, has committed a major faux pas when it revealed the victim's name during a press conference, in violation of the law.
Apart from revealing the name of the victim, Alka Lamba, a social activist and a member of the team constituted by the NCW, on Saturday said, "We spoke to the victim today. She told us that on the night of the incident she and her friends had gone to a pub for a friend's birthday. The victim's friends escaped before the mob gathered."
