Haj pilgrims stranded by Air India

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: About 130 Indian Haj pilgrims are stranded at the Jeddah airport in Saudi Arabia.

They were due to return on an Air India flight, but refused to pay the excess baggage fare demanded by the airline – about nearly Rs 600 per extra Kg.

The pilgrims were carrying more than the 45 kilos allowed for Haj pilgrims.

The flight took off with only 140 passengers on board.

Air India later said 50 of the stranded passengers were airlifted home on Wednesday. That still leaves about 80 Indian passengers stranded at Jeddah.
