A day after Samajwadi Party MP from Baghpat, Sompal Shastri, decided not to contest next year's Lok Sabha polls on party ticket, the SP on Monday declared Haji Ghulam Mohammad, a sitting MLA, as its candidate from the parliamentary constituency.
Mohammad is a legislator from Siwal Khas constituency, a party release said on Monday.
Shastri had on Sunday decided not to contest the next general elections under party's banner, accusing the SP-led state government of failing to control the communal violence in Muzaffarnagar, Shamli and Baghpat.
